The answer is “No”

In the 1992 accords, mainland China and Taiwan agreed to peacefully disagree on who governs China while they both continue to agree that Taiwan is part of China.

The 1992 accords gave Taiwan unchallenged autonomy until the two sides come to a peaceful resolution.

That deal is still on the table. The current leaders in Taipei destroyed the agreement because they want war and they are convinced they can trick Americans into fighting it for them.

But the government in Taipei was elected with only 40% of the vote. And they are openly hostile to those who speak Mandarin even though their own military speaks only Mandarin.

So will mainland China take Taiwan by force? I strongly doubt it. Will mainland China take Kinmen County by force and with the cooperation of Republic of China military units stationed there? I consider this a likely response if Trump/Rubio pushes for war.

The military on Taiwan will not engage in combat against their Mandarin speaking brothers in the PLA

Let’s all hope the Taiwan separatists are voted out of office and we can return to the 1992 accords
